Emmaus Monastery Na Slovanech in Prague, Czechoslovakia
The church was originally founded by Charles IV in 1347 and became a center of learning, art and Slavic literature. During WWII it was seized by the Gestappo and the monks were sent to Dachau concentration camp. The original steeples were destroyed by fire in 1945 during a bombing raid.
František Maria Černý designed the double spire that replaced the roof and towers in 1968. It was returned to the Benedictine order in 1990, the monastery is administered by three monks, two of whom still live there.
