The Institute of Information, AKA: “Kyiv Flying Saucer” in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The architect and artist Florian Yuriev initially intended the space-race inspired saucer auditorium as a venue to showcase his color-music theory in which colors are mapped to specific sounds, but in practice was used as a lecture hall and cinema of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information.
Initially they told him it couldn’t be built, but the engineers found a way. In recent years it has survived threats by encroaching development projects but in 2020 it was added to the Cultural Heritage Protection registry.
There is a great documentary out about Florian Yuriev and his struggles in the final years of his life to keep developers from destroying the Saucer building. Really interesting and inspiring guy!
